Classroom Assessment for Learning

To serve students well, teachers need to employ a variety of assessment practices to check student learning and to inform and adjust teaching practices. This course will provide a foundation for assessment that goes beyond a testing mindset. After studying and discussing many aspects of both formative and summative assessments, students will write a personal philosophy of assessment that will serve as a guide for decisions that need to be made in their own classroom. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to research assessment topics of personal interest and develop assessments and rubrics for a course that they are preparing to teach. Many parts of this course will be practical even for teachers who primarily use curriculum tests.
