Joseph Miller was born in Managua, Nicaragua, where his family was serving in the mission field for several years. His family moved back to Kansas when he was four and he spent the rest of his childhood running free with his cousins and exploring the natural world, both in Kansas and in frequent trips back to Central America. He was homeschooled for most of K-12 but attended many classes and graduated with Pilgrim High School.

Following school, he worked for the family construction business for several years before feeling the call of the classroom again and going to Faith Builders to complete the Teacher Apprenticing track in 2022. Joseph taught high school science and Spanish back at Pilgrim High School in Kansas for the next three years while studying Kansas’ birds and snakes and digging fossils in his spare time. In 2025 he married Lonita and together they moved back to Faith Builders to begin his position as instructor. Together they enjoy reading a wide variety of genres and spending time outdoors exploring and foraging.

Joseph believes that the process of discovery of the natural world is an important part of worship and believes that learning to see God’s fingerprints in the world is a skill which we all should practice.
