Ministry Apprenticing Program Overview

A two-year Ministry Apprenticeship Program (MAP) is offered to students seeking a general educational experience. Men and women who want to become grounded in a Christian worldview from an Anabaptist perspective take MAP. The apprenticing component of this program focuses on development of skills that are essential to the Christian community. This program is flexible enough to meet the needs of students planning to pursue a four-year college degree in disciplines other than education, but who would like their first experience of post-secondary work to be at Faith Builders. This program offers rigorous training in disciplines which typically form the liberal arts core of a traditional program.

Students in the Ministry Apprenticing Program (MAP) are involved in four basic types of activities: study, mentoring, apprenticing, and school service.

STUDY

MAP students take courses that cover a broad spectrum of learning. These include Bible, History, Theology, Philosophy, Education, Music, Literature and Communication.

MENTORING

FBEP offers mentoring opportunities to students, volunteers, and staff. Mentoring is a life-on-life relational process in which a discipler/mentor transfers his or her wisdom, information, experience, confidence, and insight to a disciple so that skills and character can develop. This takes place in group settings and in one-on-one meetings. All MAP students participate in the mentoring program.

APPRENTICING

All students in the Ministry Apprenticing Program are also involved in apprenticing. This focuses on the development of life skills. Ministry Apprenticeship (MAP) Students have opportunities to be apprenticed in a variety of skills essential in the local church including cross-cultural relationships and evangelism, Sunday School teaching, one-on-one discipling, vision development and small-group leadership. A four-week intensive apprenticing term in August-September anchors the apprenticing that continues throughout the year.

SCHOOL-SERVICE

MAP Students also participate in the FB School-Service Program. This program involves the students in two hours per week of uncompensated service work around Faith Builders. This program helps control the expense of operating FBEP. In addition, some compensated jobs are available to students as needs arise.

Testimonies from MAP Students:

The past two years of study have given me a better understanding & appreciation for the Anabaptist viewpoint. It has also been a time of soul searching and pursuit of God. The combination of knowledge and sensitivity exhibited by the instructors has inspired me to continue seeking God throughout my life.

My time at FB has helped me understand what Anabaptists believe and shown me that it is Biblical and worthwhile to commit myself to. It has also helped me open up myself to friendship, relationship with God, and fun.
